How to activate Windows 11 with a product key
This guide explains the standard Microsoft activation flow. Your product key must match the Windows edition you are activating, and your device needs an internet connection for online activation.
1. Check your installed edition
Open Settings → System → About and note the Windows edition, such as Home or Pro. A key intended for one edition should not be assumed to activate another.
2. Open Activation settings
Go to Settings → System → Activation. Select Change product key, enter the 25-character key exactly as supplied, and follow the on-screen instructions.
3. Confirm the activation status
Return to Settings → System → Activation and review the activation state. If Windows reports an error, record the exact message before seeking support.
If activation does not complete
Check that you entered the key on the intended device and edition. Avoid repeated guesses or third-party activation tools. Review your seller’s support process and Microsoft’s official guidance.
